INDIRECT HEATERS

 

Indirect water / glycol bath heaters have a wide variety of successful applications in the oil and gas production, gas processing and gas distribution industry. Some of the more common applications for indirect heaters include the following:

1.   The heating of high pressure natural gas upstream of a pressure station regulation in order to prevent the internal formation of natural gas water hydrates downstream of the pressure regulator.

2.   The heating of a water saturated natural gas stream to prevent cooling and the internal formation of natural gas water hydrates.

3.   The heating of a water saturated natural gas stream upstream of primary separation to an optimum temperature to facilitate good separation.

4.   The heating of high-pressure natural gas upstream of pressure regulation in order to prevent external ice / frost formation thus inhibiting ground heaving and road damage.

5.   The heating of a crude oil stream in order to reduce the viscosity for ease of transportation.

 

Q.B. Johnson Mfg., Inc. indirect heaters are comprised of four basic components – the heater shell, the fire tube, the gas coil and the water expansion section. The design of the fire tube allows for a rapid transfer of heat (both radiant and convective) from the fuel flame to the water / glycol bath. The heat is transferred from the water / glycol bath to the gas coil and then safely to the gas. The heater shell contains the fire tube, gas coil and water/glycol bath. As the water /glycol bath is heated, the bath expands and the expanded heat media flows into the expansion section.
